Why ‘Skin Flooding’ Is the Next Big Thing
Discover a new trend and our favorite Korean Beauty products from Soko Glam
Can I be honest with you? I love my skincare routine. It’s tight and consistent and it works but I would often run out of products all at once and because I’m very consistent with my routine that would happen every few months. Back to me being candid; I am tired of spending several hundreds of dollars every time I need to put my routine back together. Yes, I can budget it in and make it work but I know there are highly wonderful, highly effective products that might cost a fraction of the price. I’ve challenged myself to move into new realms when revamping my routine with some well-reviewed Korean skincare brands from Soko Glam. Here’s what I tried and my thoughts as someone with 30-something, normal-to-dry skin in Southern California.
While on my hunt into Korean Skincare I came across a term I’d never heard before: skin flooding. It’s the process of layering several moisturizing products to deeply hydrate the skin. Being someone with dry skin when I’m not on my A-game this was very intriguing. I’ve tried “slugging” (applying an occlusive moisturizer like oil or jelly at the end of your skincare routine, especially overnight) off and on but never stuck to it because I did not appreciate the way my face felt but this was different. The idea of pushing thinner textured products into your skin and sealing with my normal moisturizer sounded more enjoyable than my previous attempts at slugging.
A quick disclosure on these reviews: All these products I am sharing, I slowly rolled into my routine. I’ve got my skin to a mostly good place so I make sure to slowly add/adjust so I can tell how well or poorly my skin reacts to each new product. Take your time and use your own discretion. By Palais strives to recommend products we’ve tried while leaving it up to you on what to purchase and use. Now, let’s dive in.
Knours Hydrating Jojoba Oil + Aloe Vera H2O Double Duty Mist I am loving starting my routine with this mist. This is the start of the skin flooding process for me. Starting with a wet, hydrated face and slowly applying each product is so much easier.
I’m From Mugwort Essence
DearKlairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C I’m still not sure I’m loving this enough to replace my previous vitamin c serum. This is an oil based formula which I’ve never tried before. I think I’ll withhold of judgement until I make my way through more of the bottle.
Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream
Hanyul Chestnut Shell Hydrating Pore Mask I really liked this as a gentle mask. I prefer chemical exfoliants over physical ones and this is not aggressive sy all. I definitely see myself continuing to use this maybe once a week when my skin is feeling good, not needing anything in particular and I want to add in a little something extra.
Hanyul Yuja Vitamin Sleeping Mask I am in love with this mask. If you're familiar with yuzu lemons, this smells just like them and it’s one of my favorite smells. The first I applied this it stuck just a bit but quickly went away. You wash it off in the morning and after the few times I’ve used this I’ve definitely seen an increase in brightness.
HaruHaru Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence This particular product isn’t available on the Soko Glam website but some of their other offers are. I ran across this one and thought this might be something my skin could use. Reviews say it ups the hydration a ton and for me, if definitely did.
