Sergio Hudson

Meet Sergio Hudson.

His designs can be described by just one word: elegant. He has come a long way from Ridgeway, South Carolina, a town with a population of fewer than 400 people.

Back in 2013 at the age of 29, he won the first and only season of Styled to Rock on Bravo, a show starring and executive produced by Rihanna. A decade later, it’s hard to name a celebrity who hasn’t worn Sergio Hudson. Michelle Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris both wore Sergio Hudson for President Biden’s inauguration.

While his signature dresses can be as much as $5,000, Sergio wants to be a designer for people of all incomes, body types, and ages. Last year, he did a collaboration with Target last that featured dresses for as long as $50. And whereas the industry standard goes up to size 12, Hudson chose to be more inclusive and take on the added expense of accommodating sizes 14 and 16. Earlier this year, he faced criticism for featuring 57-year-old model Veronica Webb in his New York Fashion Week show. While many think he’s made it to the top, to Hudson, success means being defined as a designer and not “Black designer.” Much respect to Hudson for carrying the mission forward in a time where DEI initiatives are being dismantled.
