Fashion for the World: Ghana

The beautiful thing about fashion is that it can transport you to regions around the world to evoke curiosity, empathy and an appreciation for varied perspectives. It can illustrate a trend surfacing in any city or serve as a cultural interpretation by an artist. Fashion unites us. It’s important for us as consumers to step out of our comfort zones of where and who we think is the authority on the fashion world and open up to designers that can emerge from various regions.

Ghana is the epicenter of fast-developing change and connection to the West. It is disrupting many arenas such as technology, art, music and of course fashion. There are several names you should know that are emerging from the vibrant fashion scene in Ghana. Here are just a few of our favorites:

Founded by Aisha Ayensu, Christie Brown blends traditional West African textiles with modern silhouettes, offering refined and vibrant garments that speak to the contemporary Ghanaian woman.

Co-founded by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, Studio 189 is a social‑entrepreneurial label based in Accra and New York, celebrated for its hand‑batiked, ethically made garments that champion African artisans.

Designer Nelly Hagan‑Aboagye conceptualizes structural, pleated womenswear that accentuates form and femininity, blending strength with soft sophistication.
